Have you ever been completely surprised by someone else’s business?

As a business broker and avid-networker I spend most of my time surrounded by other businesses which provide a wide range of products and services. But the other day I came across a business which I never thought would have existed - a manufacturer of bespoke, retro arcade games! The business was started as an experiment in the owner’s kitchen and shed and has now grown to have a substantial annual turnover, a stellar reputation and growing customer base.

When I think about it, I shouldn’t be so surprised. There are a number of fun and unusual businesses out there with a strong grounding in traditional manufacturing techniques that makes them both profitable and scalable. I had just not considered that I could get a full-sized Space Invaders console for my living room…
